From the Principal

We have reached the end of Semester 1 and what a wonderful journey it has been. The expansion of our school has been such a positive experience and the kids are so proud of their school; they love being Oakwooders! I would like to acknowledge the amazing work of our staff who give their all every day for the benefit of our children – they deserve a well earned rest! May I take this opportunity to thank our parents and community members for your support of our school throughout this semester. Events and special occasions are always well attended and the partnership between school and home is strong, which is a key ingredient of us meeting the needs of our students.

Cross Country

Wednesday’ Cross Country was a fantastic event. The children gave their absolute best and ran with heart. It was pleasing to see them striv-ing to achieve their personal best. Con-gratulations to those who finished on the podium too! I want to give a special mention to our senior students who showed great support to some of our younger students by running with them to help them complete their races. There were lots of parents and family members providing support for the run-ners too and our younger kids also came along to support! I would like to acknowledge the leadership of Mr Young in co-ordinating the whole event and also acknowledge the team of staff supporting him – everyone played a role in making the day a suc-cess! We look forward to our Year 4 – 6 students competing at the inter school competition in Term 3.

Principal’s Lunch

Tuesday 18 June was our Principal’s Lunch for Term 2 and it was fantastic to host the children that were chosen for their kindness, excellence and for being amazing Oakwood Fish! The Leadership Team served them a lunch, chatted with them about why they were chosen and gave them an opportunity for some extra play as well. We love rewarding our kids for displaying positive behaviours and for working hard so this was an occasion to enjoy!

Term 2 Attendance Reward

By Wednesday 26 June, the attendance figures showed that 80% of our students had regular attendance (90% or more) during Semester 1. As a result, we were on course to achieve our attendance target and it was decided that all students would be provided with a warming cup of hot chocolate as a reward for this! Over the course of this week, our students have been coming to the canteen to receive their drink and they have really enjoyed the experience. Their wonderful manners have been noticeable, making us all very proud of them. Thank you to Tania in the canteen for supporting us with this.

School recommences for students on Monday 22 July – we look forward to seeing you all then. We wish all our students and families a restful and happy break.

Kiss and Drop

The City of Mandurah have denied us the opportunity to create a designated kiss and drop facility in the parking bays on Pineknoll Gardens. We met with council representatives recently on site top discuss creating this facility, but they have deemed it unsuitable. This is due to the school having in their words ‘ample parking currently’ and worries about creating congestion at the end of the day. At this stage without the support of the city, we are unable to provide a facility that most other schools have, which we are very sorry about.
